What can I say. I had volcano roll, shrimp tempura roll, hibachi steak, etc... You cannot beat the price. The food is phenomenal and the staff are amazing. You definitely get your money worth. The lunch menu is limited but dinner is all out. They also have an array of Saki products that I sampled. Great place for the buck.

I hardly ever venture over to the Peninsula, but my honey took me to the Virginia Living Museum for my birthday, and we wanted to find a close lunch spot. I like the Sushi King in VB so I wanted to give this one a try. There were a few people in the restaurant at 12:30 mid-week. I was a bit put off by the loud music playing - a mix of house and techno. Weird for a sushi place. I considered buying a groupon, but with the lunch price for AYCE, we decided it wasn't necessary. It really was a good price for AYCE and they have an excellent selection of cold/hot appetizers, classic & special rolls and kitchen entrees like hibachi, fried rice and teriyaki. Between my man and I, we tried cucumber salad, seaweed salad, steamed shumai, vegetable tempura, california roll, crabmeat roll, salmon roll and volcano roll. I don't have a complaint about anything we had. It was all delicious and had only a little rice. One of my sushi pet-peeves is using too much rice. I almost wish I lived closer to this Sushi King so that I could go back. But I may bring earplugs..

Found this on yelp. Haven't live here over 10 years just wanted sushi and found this place. So far the service is ok. For the price they asking for I couldn't say no. I love sushi and I am from California and been station in Japan. This place so far is not bad but they just slow on a slow day getting food out. I wonder what it's like on a busy day here. I place a order and wait 10 mins till I get my sushi but I guess I get what I pay for. Sushi itself is not to bad either. I have been to a lot of all you can eat they are alot faster here on getting food out and quality as well. But what do you expect for $12 AYCE sushi.

This is a great place to get your sushi fix! First off its all you can eat so if you want a good place for a date night it's a great spot. I went with a good friend of mine and we enjoyed some great sushi. The crazy monkey roll is by far my favorite roll but I honestly didn't try one that I didn't like. I would put this on par in quality and service with any other sushi place I have ever eaten at. The waitress regularly brought over appetizers for us to try without us even having to ask and they were just as fantastic as the sushi! I also feel it's important to say that you can see the sushi chefs preparing your order fresh, so no stale sushi on a conveyor belt. One warning though, if your order any drinks like saki your tab will go through the roof. All in all great food, all you can eat, good service... what's not to love.

I wasn't impressed by any aspect of the experience, to be honest. The food is quick and plentiful, but the chefs are clearly told to minimize the amount of fish. The service was overwhelmed by the demands for an overly-large area considering they were dealing with all-you-can-eat customers but without the ability to self serve. The hibachi steak was meh. The specialty rolls were decent, but the classic ones disappointed. All told, In the future I would prefer to just pay for a great product instead of an all-you-can-eat experience.

Love this chain....this one and the one in hampton...the desert menu need's work...but the rolls and sushi is always fresh....only thing I couldn't get was the flying fish roe :( otherwise everything was good and plentiful...Sister from New York loved It....

We are visiting Williamsburg area from CA and had gotten a Groupon for Sushi King. Very disappointed earlier on that one there not open yet. After day in Yorktown, cut over to Newport News for dinner. Wow, are we glad we persisted! Everything we had was great! Would highly recommend seafood salad, black pepper tuna, and the angel roll. Wasabi was sparingly provided - even if you asked for extra, was still less than packaged sushi in grocery store. Overall, wish we had something like Sushi King near home - appreciated individually made dishes/rolls. Service started to slack as they got busy - overheard that many coming in were also Groupon. Was okay since we're on vacation, but don't go if you're in a hurry. Would be good even full price if you're ready to get your sushi on!

Great atmosphere. They play great music, nice bar if your flying solo or want to watch the game. All you can eat lunch $11.99 dinner $17.99 can't be beat. Over 2 dozen sushi items and a dozen cooked habachi style meals. A great find in Newport News, VA. Check sushikingusa.com for other locations

Was excited to finally try this place because several friends have told me how great it is. Wife and I tried ordering several items off the all you can eat dinner menu and all but one disappointed. The sushi did not appear fresh but was ok. The rolls were mostly filler and rice and did not taste good, imitation crab, yuck. Tried the hibachi steak and it had absolutely no seasoning, bland and blah. Tried the teriyaki chicken and got a bland sliced chicken breast (probably frozen) again absolutely no seasoning and some cheap teriyaki sauce splashed over it. We did not finish a single plate except for the shrimp shumai which was passable.when we talked to a manager he said they had a new cook and maybe he should check on him. If you like bland food made from the cheapest of ingredients this is the place for you. A waste of 40 dollars.

Not as nice as the Downtown Norfolk location, but same exact theory. This location has more a buffet or Golden Corral feel to it. The visit started off rough due to waiting about 10 minutes before a waiter showed up to take drink orders. With two kids in tow, I am a little sensitive to wait times like this. However, once he showed up, we were ready to order and off to the races. I tried to not eat like a complete pig so that I didn't have to let out my belt. The quality is fine for my kids and I. I typically keep it simple with my rolls and I like some of the apps, like the crab Rangoon. For me and given the amounts that my kids can put down, this is economical for us. It is just very hard to not overindulge. I recommend the Sushi King locations, but I like the Norfolk one better. It is cleaner and the service is better.

I went here on the way to Virginia Beach and the service was terrible!! I give it a two stars because the food itself is fine. When if it takes 1 hour to get you sushi on the table, it kinda sucks... the waiter keeps changing and giving me the other table's food. I think Sushi king in Richmond has better service.

Was driving around exploring when I came across sushi king with a sign outside that says all you can eat. I immediately thought "ohh a buffet". Went inside to find no buffet. I was a little let down at first until I understood the concept. For the most part I enjoyed my meal. My favorites were the yakisoba, the yellowtail jalapeño and the tuna. I didn't like the egg drop soup the fried calamari or the dragon roll because I don't like fake crab. My server Josh was very attentive and patient with me. Although a but expensive I'd recommend this place. And I'd define try come back just for the yakisoba!

I'm not one to turn my nose up to a good, cheap asian buffet, but this place takes that concept and blows it out of the water. It is a bit more expensive than a buffet ($17, plus you'll have to tip your server) and it takes a bit longer to get your food (because everything is made to order), but it's totally worth it, especially compared to the prices at some other all-you-can-eat sushi places. Everything is really fresh and tasty. I would only come here though if i wanted to eat a bunch of sushi. For 17 bucks you can order basically anything on the menu, one main course at a time. They have salads like cucumber salad and seaweed salad, appetizers like crab rangoons and spring rolls, hibachi chicken and beef, and the majority of the menu is a large selection of sushi and rolls. There's enough non-seafood items on the menu to please my girlfriend who has an allergy. I liked almost everything I tasted. My one criticism of the food was that depending on which chef makes your sushi roll, occasionally the technique was a bit sloppy. The ambiance is modern and classy, although I did notice some cobwebs on the light fixtures. The service was good enough. I'll definitely be back here the next time I'm craving a whole mess of sushi.

I went recently to sushi king for the All You Can Eat lunch, which was about $12 before tax and tip. Being an all you can eat sushi place, I did not go in with high expectations. The all you can eat menu lets you order plenty of items that aren't sushi including appetizers, hibachi items, fried rice, etc. I ordered miso soup, shu mai, edamame, and 4 rolls of sushi. some of the rolls didn't have too much fish in them like some other reviewers mentioned, but some had the right amount. Of course there are better quality sushi places around, but the quality of the sushi at sushi is good for the price and being all you can eat. Usually for better sushi I would only be able to order 1 or 2 rolls with the amount of money I paid for a bunch more at Sushi King. I will probably be revisiting sushi king soon to pig out on a nice assortment of food.

I felt like I was in the cheap Chinese food buffeg. But had some extra sushi. The price was a little more. Dessets was gross. Service sucked. I would not go again.

It's an all you can eat buffet. I can't even finish the review. I mean It's an all you can eat sushi buffet. No conveyor belt. Apps are ok. If you prefer quantity over quality this place is for you.

Great concept. This location has been plagued with unsuccessful Asian cuisine restaurants. This time, I think that they found a winner. It's an upscale "all you can eat" sushi, sushi rolls, Asian appetizers, Asian cooked meals, and desert. Did I mention it's one cost for all you can eat. 15.99$. I will be back! The redesign of the seating area has made a once plain buffet style seating to a nice restaurant with modern urban decor. It feels very nice inside. The food was excellent. I came with a group of 7 last night. We started with appetizers: Kani salad, shrimp tempura, crab Rangoon, egg rolls, and Japanese beer. Everything tasted well. They make everything to order and tapas style for apps. The concept is this. Order an entree. Before you finish order your next item. Think like red lobster's unlimited shrimp except it's the entire menu! Amazing. Go hungry. The reason I gave a 4 star rather than the 5 star is because of service. I think the servers are very attentive but are not used to this concept yet. Also, I don't think they had enough servers. So an example is that when I was ready to place my next order, she would go to those who got her attention rather than everyone. I wish they would gain the concept like tuscanos with the red light green light. Beyond that. The food came out every 15 min. A reasonable pace. Was fresh. Tasty. Filling. This is a new favorite and go to spot. Very happy sushi king came to the peninsula. Happy sushi eating all! (And nice cooked items too for non sushi lovers like hibachi style and teriyaki and vegetable dishes). They have a full fancy bar and a kids menu. Enjoy!

If you're ever in Newport News and you're craving all-you-can-eat sushi, this is the place to go. The prices are super cheap ($16.99 on weekends) and it is made to order! No buffet tables with stale sushi. Yuck. While I'm known to not frequent buffets, I was with a crowd of eight and I was not going to be the party pooper. The menu has the standard sushi joint food - appetizers like seaweed salad and miso soup (both good), sashimi, sushi rolls, and some odd ball items like onion rings... The sashimi costs extra. You can eat your $16.99 worth with an order of two rolls at a regular sushi place. I like the standard sushi rolls (Philly and spicy tuna/salmon) and It is nothing over-the-top or out of the ordinary. But I also took a chance on the Crazy Monkey roll and was surprised at the taste. It had crab and...banana. I figure since it is all-you-can-eat, it doesn't hurt to try it out and I was not bad. It had a sweet taste from the banana that offsets the soy sauce. However, I'm not sure if I can eat the full roll. It tasted a bit like dessert.

awesome establishment. ran into an issue and the manager straightened it out. Great staff, sweetest waitress ever. Oh, and delicious sushi.

Enjoyable experience. The dinner price was great for the choices offered. You can get sushi as well as hibachi, cooked appetizers and sushi appetizers. Definitely something for everyone to find enjoyable. Not a traditional all you can eat because they cook the food to order, which is great not to eat food that's been sitting around! They have oysters available for dinner and we ordered four orders of them which paid for the meal in itself! The sushi is decent, not exceptional but good for all you can eat. I definitely plan to go again when I visit family in the Newport News area.

I have to start with the disclaimer that I am not particularly a big fan of sushi. LOL. But I was dining with people who were and the menu offered a good variety of items that I hoped would be satisfying enough. Sushi King is good, but expensive. If you're going there primarily for the sushi rolls, it's probably cheaper than your typical sushi restaurant. For $16, you get all you can eat sushi and whatever else you want off the menu. I tried to get my money's worth. My party shared 3 orders of gyoza dumplings over the course of the meal. They came out piping hot and crispy. Loved them. The dumplings were cooked exactly how I like them. I then had a plate of teriyaki steak, which came with my choice of white or fried rice. This was cooked perfectly as well, but I would've preferred a few more veggies on my plate. I think I got just 2 broccoli florets. Next up, I decide to try my luck at a non-seafood sushi roll (So is it still called sushi? No idea. LOL). I ordered an avocado roll that was good. No frills here. My roll came out sort of tiny, but filled with avocado chunks and a nice way to get my pallet ready for something more out of my comfort zone. I scarfed the avocado roll down and a ordered he Tokyo Roll. This was mango, cucumber, avocado with fried banana on top. Delicious. It tasted like a desert. The ingredients worked well together. I've decided this roll means I am now an official sushi eater. The rest of my group were still eating so I took the opportunity to order one last dish - the hibachi steak. They cooked the steak well. It came with my choice of rice and a white sauce for dipping (typical of most hibachi places). I still wish they had thrown a few more veggies in the mix. Our service was excellent. Our waiter was helpful and attentive. He kept our drinks refilled and didn't become annoying (for lack of a better word) like some servers do when you eat a less crowded places. He also passed no judgement when I asked for a fork because I can't eat rice with chopsticks to save my life. I took a couple stars away for the minor things - I would've liked more veggie sushi selections, more veggies in my meat entrees, and maybe the chance to try a Japanese beer or two, but it wasn't offered or clearly displayed that they even carry it. Finally, at $16 per adult, it's pricy, so you have to come with an appetite to crush food or you're not getting a great deal. Sushi lovers will kneel to the Sushi King.

Unbelievably awesome! This is a simply unbelievable concept here. $15-$17 gets you everything on the menu. (With two or three exceptions) The best part is that everything is made to order. As far as the restaurant and decor goes, this is a prime example of not judging a book by its cover. On the outside it looks just like another buffet off of Jefferson Ave. But, inside is the perfect fusion of trendy and elegant, with a modern Japanese twist. Absolutely loved it! So the way the operation works is nothing like your average buffet. The server or waitress comes to your table, takes your order (which you can order as much as you want) and then the food is brought to you fresh. Only recommendation I have is that you come with plenty of friends if you want to try a little bit of everything. The rolls you order are on average 8 pieces, so unless you're a competitive eater, there is no way you can eat more than 2 rolls, an appetizer and possibly dessert. Because you will be stuffed! Note: that wasting food is never cool! Last but not least, make sure you come hungry.

I keep coming back here and each time I hope it'll be different. The first few times I came here the food was awesome, but now I get sick and end up with major cramps and a bathroom visit in the not so distant future. The past 2 times I felt this way, but thought it might be a fluke. Today was the last straw. A friend and I came in for lunch, I ordered some raw sushi and a roll and she ordered hibachi. Oh course we ordered soup and a salad and that was promptly delivered. Like the past few visits, her main course came out promptly. Mine, on the other hand, came out by the time she was almost finished. I understand that these places get busy and it's hard to keep up, but we were one of the few people in during the opening hours. Not even 5 minutes after eating my stomach started cramping and I knew I had to go. We asked our server for the check and she never came with it. Another server saw us with our money out and got our checks, while we watched our server clear a table. I barely got home in time and I'm updating my review from my bathroom... I would highly recommend not getting anything raw from here period!

Ive been to every, sushi king open in the area. As well as the Richmond location .. I wouldn't say this spot is the best but very quick service and the food is well porportioned. When I crave sushi I go here with friends from out of town. Not many sushi all you can order places like this in northern Virginia

  • John D.

I came in for their lunch specials. I was with a big group of people and we all did the all you can eat special. Food: I've had sushi numerous times and I was stationed in Japan for two years (credibility established), I didn't enjoy the food. Yes I was hungry, but even with the pangs of hunger in mind, I was not satisfied with the taste, quality and quantity of the sushi I ordered. The lunch special was cheap, but I didn't expect the food to be so close to reality. Service: I understand we had a big group on our table and that it was lunch time, but it is poor planning on their part to allow slow service during a peak time of day. Hire more servers. I had to order in bulk just so I can actually enjoy my meal without having to wait a minimum of 15 minutes per order. Price: it was cheap. Plain and simple. But you get what you pay for. Overall: this place is not a rare deal you find. Their cheap prices reflects in every aspect of their food's quality, and their service's performance. I do not recommend this place.

First and formost the atmosphere and decor are great! Buffet but without the pain of getting up and fighting for your next plate! The price is insane! If your looking for a great weekday lunch its 11.99 and dinner or weekends are 16.99! The food is good! You have to understand that it is buffet and not a piece order or belt style sushi resturaunt! The portions are small which gives you the oppurtunity to try the entire menu (if you eat like me)! All in all great place highly recommend it!

    (4)
  • John A.

The portions are small. Giving you the chance to try the whole menu. That's what my buddy and I did. We come from Hawaii where the fish is the fresh. This place is pretty good with that in mind. 16.99 dinner 8.99 lunch all you can eat, can't go wrong there. A must for sushi lovers....

We all know a lot goes into a review, but the quality of the food is what drives my review this time. The sushi here is phenomenal. I've been to all-you-can-eat sushi places before, and this sitting style is always the best way to go, instead of a buffet. They pace you properly, by only allowing you to choose so many orders at a time, so that you don't gorge too fast. Very apt. And simply amazing sushi, on top of that. Everything is fresh and made-to-order, which is another plus to this style of eating. As far as the service is concerned, sometimes I have a great waiter/waitress who is very prompt in visiting us, and checking on our needs, and other times, we have a waitress who is not attentive at all. Regardless, the food is what we come for, and I can always forgive a slow waiter if it's for well-prepared seafood.

  • Corinne B.

Still a great place to eat...the prices and delicious cuisine aren't to be missed...however... In my previous review I mentioned that if you are trying to get in and out for lunch, you may want to skip this place. After standing at the hostess station for 5 minutes, without being acknowleged, I find out that there was a 10 minute wait at noon. We decided to stay but a few people walked out when they heard there was a wait. Now, I understand that there might be reasons why you are not seating in a particular area, but when there are obvious open seats in an area where others are sitting, you may become annoyed at the lack of communication. A little communication would have been great. The hostess was a bit on the snarky side as well. Overall, great food...will be back...customer service could use some tweaking.

I rarely give places a full 5 stars! HOLY MOLY! This place is delicious! I have been 4 times now spread out over a year. I wish I could go more but I feel like this is one of those places to go for a special treat (not fancy though) and when you are absolutely starving. I always get the same thing- seaweed salad, dumplings, vegetable tempura, spicy tuna roll, chicken hibachi. And it is always fresh and comes out quickly!

    (5)
  • Emma S.

I love the all you can eat menu! Delicious and average service. My favorite rolls are the volcano and monkey rolls. Definitely worth the visit!

  • Aimee H.

Good food, very attentive staff. Try the Hawaii roll, you will not be disappointed.

    (5)
  • Lyle H.

Quantity over quality. I had the shrimp tempura, a Rainbow roll, and a Christmas roll. The tempura was heavy. The Rainbow roll had too much rice, not enough crab or cucumber. The Christmas roll suffered the same high rice to fish ratio and a huge portion of avocado. In the end, if I was dining with big eaters who didn't have refined sushi tastes, Sushi King is fine. Otherwise head over the James River Bridge to Carrollton. There you can find some of the best sushi in Tidewater.

    (3)
  • Iggypopdebop 7.

Don't let the past failed restaurants fool ya with this one! We actually have a winner here. Everything was fresh and made to order! I was impressed with the quality of the rice as well. You'd be surprised how many places get that wrong, but not this place! From Dragon rolls, volcano rolls, Richmond rolls, California rolls to just plain old French fries were great! I can't even list the rest of the food here for sake of time but the waiter was attentive and very helpful and didn't even bat an eye at more food requests!

This restaurant should not even share the same name as the Sushi King in Richmond. The Newport News location recipes are totally different (not in a good way) and they are rediculously heavy handed on the seasonings. We were at the location in Richmond and had planned a day of shopping in Williamsburg following lunch. The Richmond location was packed with regulars so there was a 30 minute wait. Despite being busy, the place was beautiful clean and classy, as always. Since we could not wait, we thought we'd just grab lunch at the Newport News location after shopping. This was a terrible mistake. Our black pepper tuna, normally red, and shining like a ruby in the center, was brown and covered in too much wasabi sauce and pepper to be edible. The hibachi steak was overcooked and cut too small. The waitstaff was slow moving and argumentative. My husband and our guest ate one plate each and opted to leave hungry rather than risk getting sick. They are both former restaurant managers and my husband was a former hotel manager, as well. The experience was a disappointing waste of money.

This place is our favorite. We come in 1 to 2 times a month and it is always impeccable. From the survive to the food itself. We would come here once a week but can't really afford that often. It's SOOOOOO WORTH THE CASH!! They have fresh by the order sushi as well as killer hibachi! Cameron and Adam are the top servers in our opinion. The others seem good too but these 2 are our favorite. The entire place is just wonderful in our opinion. If we ever hit the lottery we are gonna eat here every night!

Went here recently. It's it me or does sushi always seem expensive. Ok so this place is nice but the menu does not describe the items. I live to be able to see or read about what's in a roll. Not here. The food is ok. I've had better sushi for sure. The teriyaki was good, but the scallops seemed, oldish.

    (2)
  • Nicole S.

The black pepper tuna and yellowtail jalapeño appetizers were amazing! I had the Las Vegas roll and the Christmas roll both amazing, my husband had the rainbow and white dragon roll also both amazing! The service was really good as well. For $16.99 all you can eat, this is my new favorite sushi place! I was a bit skeptical before we came, I'm really glad we did!

  • Romi G.

I'm impressed by their all you can eat menu. They may not have the best Japanese food in the area, but for the price and the made as you order rolls, I'm pleased with the quality of food and service. The fried calamari was overcooked, but they were willing to replace asap. If you want to try different appetizers, sushi rolls and various Japanese hibachi items, I definitely recommend this place. Bring your appetite!

    (4)
  • Kyran S.

Great sushi and you can't beat all you can eat for under $20. This is our go to sushi place when we are wanting a few rolls and great appetizers. This is a must on any sushi lovers list of places to go. Much cheaper than trying to order multiple rolls from a sushi bar or Japanese steak house.

  • Davidcia G.

I truly don't know why reviews are so good for this restaurant. There is no ambience whatsoever in this place. The outside is run down and inside is dark. There are tv's but are so far away from the tables, who's watching? I went with a group and we were seated right away because they had just opened. Service was slow after that. Our waitress was slow, and the food orders were slow. Yes the price for all you can eat is good at just 11.99, but the quality of food isn't. The sushi wasn't tasty, portions were small (this wasn't too bad because it's all you can eat), the yakisoba noodles tasted like the $1 box ones you put water in and microwave, the fried rice was bland, and the hibachi chicken and veggies was bland. I will not be going back. I will go to Saisaki and pay $3 more for all you can eat, and have better service, better ambience, better sushi, and an overall better experience!

For the best selection and quality for the buck. The sushi is amazing. The hibachi is excellent and the service is quick and friendly. Enjoy

Very good fresh sushi. It does get busy quickly so sometime you might be waiting for your sushi to come out. I'd recommend ordering 2-3 rolls at a time. Great selection.

  • Michelle P.

Delicious food.... Wonderful service... Reasonable price! Tried all sorts of things with the all-you-can-eat! The portions are realistic... You don't fill up on one thing... So you get to experience multiple items. Will be back and definitely recommend!

    (5)
  • Nicole C.

Wow this place is a gem! Great selections of all you can eat sushi with other odds and ends. Only issue was the service was pretty slow. We had the Hawaiian roll, volcano roll, tempura roll, crunchy roll, and white dragon roll. The kids enjoyed corn dogs and chicken nuggets. We will be back there are so many rolls left untried!

Sometimes I just go to Harris Teeter to satisfy my sushi cravings and usually spend $8 to $15 on 1 or 2 choices. If you love sushi and have a healthy, voracious appetite, then Sushi King is the place to go and spend only about $16 for an adult all-you-can-eat dinner. I used a Groupon deal for my first time, but have been there often since then. We are not in Japan, California, or Hawaii - we are in Newport News, VA - so I am patient and forgiving when it comes to Japanese food. :) Pros: -all you can eat with a good variety -most foods made with quality or above average ingredients -servers are usually on par: wave them down if you must -my kids eat sushi and are more adventuresque now with their choices - great cultural and healthy experience for them Cons: -slow service: order your appetizer and first round of sushi as soon as you can, if you're new be sure to look at their menu online ahead of time, at least you will know what kinds of appetizers and rolls they offer Overall, with the limited choices for good sushi in the 757, Sushi King is on the top of our list.

I went to sushi king for a surprise birthday party. We had about 10 people in our group. I'm not keen to the concept to having someone regulate your food even though they call it a "buffet". However we ordered sushi and it took FOREVER! Then the man kept forgetting my side orders like spring rolls, soup and rice. It was frustrating plus I was already hungry. The sushi was good however when it finally came an hour later. Then I regretted only ordering one roll because on the menu it said to only order one entree at a time! I would not recommend having a big party if your going to go there cause you will be disappointed. Oh and they have no hard liquor or drafts on tap!

Don't let the building fool you. There have been several Asian buffet type businesses in this building that have FAILED! Hopefully the past doesn't haunt them! It is no longer buffet, but all you can eat for one price. Seemed a little steep at first, but WELL worth it! Sushi options are vast not to mention taste great!! The hibachi also tasted very fresh! The service was very polite of course, but very personable as well. Professional & very knowledgeable of their menu! I can't say enough good things. If your experience is half as good as ours, you won't be disappointed!

Great food prices. Hate the building but what do you expect from a building used for several defunct Chinese eataries? Food is all fresh would recommend any Sushi lover here. If you're into substituting then they will charge you an addtl if you wanna create your own. Nonetheless I love it.

We came here for lunch about 1:30 in the afternoon. Its got a good atmosphere going on. The service was good. The food was good. I really liked the hibachi styled shrimp. Crab ragoons, spring rolls, & the avocado salad were all on point. For the price the food is pretty outstanding.

We didn't know what to eat and thought we were heading into Sushi and Wok but turned out it was this. I personally LOVE sushi so it was fine. Pleasant surprise and glad we stumbled into this. Our waitress was super polite and the food was good. It's about $15 per adult. Childrens' prices will depend on their age. Drinks of course are not included in their pricing - it's $2.50 each. Overall will return again. Few reasons why it didn't get all five stars: 1 - The booth chairs were "broke"?? 2 - Lack of menus 3 - Tea cup had stains inside 4 - A man literally projectile vomited as he tried to rush to the restroom (although this has nothing to do with the restaurant) - just not a pleasant sight

This used to be Yukai. The buffet tables are gone. It's still all you can eat, but it's all made to order! Just like expensive sushi restaurant, but you know how much your total will be before you start. All fresh and hi quality seafood.

This place is pretty good. My husband and I both enjoyed all our options. We definitely ate our monies worth. Cool thing is that everything is made to order so you know its nice and fresh. The place itself is pretty spacious and clean. Really, I have no complaint about this place. If you are into sushi, check this place out.

This was such a weird restaurant experience. This is an all you can eat sushi place, but I think it would better be described as "all the waitress thinks you can eat." There were 5 people in our party, but when we asked her to put in more than 2 entree orders, she'd say no, which made the whole experience take a really long time. We asked for small plates for sharing and she refused, saying, "I brought you these," and motioned toward 3 oz bowls she's brought out. The sushi was ok, but the whole experience was sort of stressful, and I don't think the all you can eat was any sort of value. We won't return.

The worst sushi I have ever had. They used frozen fish and looks nothing like the pictures. Wait for half an hour to bring out second round of food. GO TO HAYASHI! Spend the money it's worth it. It's not their fault, it's very hard to make quality sushi for low costs like this. My girlfriend was right

We found our new date night spot! My husband and I drive by this daily and kept saying we would go, and we finally made the time tonight. We couldn't be more pleased (or full). Great experience from the time we walked in the door. We were immediately greeted by the hostess who recognized within 10 seconds that it was our first time. She gave us a menu to look over and said she was seating a table but would be right back. When she promptly returned she explained how the restaurant worked. I was expecting this to be an all you can eat sushi buffet like others I've been in. But this is a much better concept, you sit down and read over a menu and you have a server that you order exactly what you want from. They just ask that you wait until you're almost done with your current dish before moving on to the next (which makes sense and helps keep cost down). Our server was Nathan and he was terrific. He was very personable, had excellent (and honest) recommendations, and was on top of our every order. The food was delicious! Portion sizes were perfect, unlike some places which load up your plate so that you are limited to how much you can actually get through, they send out enough to keep you happy and give you a chance to explore more of the menu. The hostess would check on us as she walked by and once seeing what we were eating she recommended we get the "Tuna Martini", so spicy and so flavorful! It was AMAZING! And you can't beat the price. 2 meals, 2 glasses of wine, and 2 very happy sushi lovers for about $40. We will definitely be going back and will be recommending this spot to our friends. And for the negative reviews I'm seeing, they must have just gone in on a bad night. We all have them :) We recommend: Black Pepper Tuna, Jalapeno Yellow tail, Volcano Roll, Tuna Martini, Dynamite Roll, Gyoza Dumplings (basically everything but definitely these)

I've been to Sushi King a couple of times and I enjoyed it both times. I like sushi, but as someone on a budget I never get my fill since I don't like spending a ton of money. The concept of unlimited food without the buffet feel was refreshing. Quality sushi is hard to come by at low prices, and I'm not connoisseur by any means, but I thought it was good. They have your standard fare, plus a number of chef specialities that are pretty good. They also have a few other options for people who were probably dragged out by a spouse or friends, and don't like sushi. The service is mostly good, but sometimes suffers when the restaurant is busier. Also, the longer I was at the restaurant, the less frequently I was visited by the waitress. I had the same waitress both times and she was very polite. I would say it's better to come at lunch when it's only $12 and it's a little less crowded. I wasn't a fan of the music selection. A lot of dub step and hip hop, which is fine, but it was a little too loud for my taste Also, some of the other people in the restaurant bothered me based on attire. I mean, I get that the low prices doesn't always inspire people to wear their best, but sweatpants and Ugg boots? Come on, have some pride. That's not the restaurants fault, though. So overall, 4/5.

Food excellent grade freshly and promptly prepared. Jona was our server and we all agree he provided the best service we have ever had. It's a special talent to serve at an all you can eat place and be attentive and offer suggestions without being hovering or pushy..jona nailed it. Atmosphere is perfect. Our new favorite place for sushi. 4 of us left packed full and had beverages and sake all for under 100!

This place is alright considering that this is probably one of the only all you can eat Japanese inspired joints in NN. The concept of all you can eat sushi scares me quite honestly because it conjures images of sad crusty day old sushi reminiscent of those in your standard Chinese buffet joints. However, I decided to go with my sister to test the waters. This place is located off Jefferson near JLab and has tons of parking. It does fill up nicely but you can find a spot regardless. The establishment from the outside looks very sad, it used to be a Ryan's, then another handful of Chinese buffets which were all horrible if you ask me. The inside is kinda chic for being an all you can eat place but it still is a but dreary. The bathrooms look nice though, and they are clean. We were seated and quickly attended to by a young guy. He seems annoyed to be there and at the same time overwhelmed since he was servicing about 6 other tables-a couple of those clients were some major butt holes too. Anyway, we ordered hot tea and I was relieved to see that they actually brought out a pot instead of the small cups only. The tea was okay-even though we had to wait a while for it to settle, but hey at least we know its fresh. The menu is decent sized but I just felt like it was missing something. I was tempted to order some hot dishes but since it was a sushi place I ordered a volcano and spider roll, while my sister ordered the Christmas roll and the crunch spicy tuna roll. The spider roll which I ordered was not what I expect, most have deep fried soft shell crab and this one had imitation crab like thing instead. The volcano roll was good, the christmas roll had a whole bunch stuff inside with with red roe and way too much sauce has a garnish. The crunchy roll was perhaps the most disappointing because it wasn't crunchy butt soggy. We also ordered some veggie tempura and I guess they were having some frying issues because the tempura batter was soggy too. Overall, I guess its a good deal but service is super slow which I can understand as your order is made when you place the order but I would hate to go here on a busy day-poor sushi chefs. I would give this place another shot but I don't see my opinion changing really.

We visited this location of Sushi King for Mother's Day. All I can say is WOW! This is my new favorite dinner spot. For $16 plus tax and substantial tip (hint, hint) you can enjoy the full delicious menu including all of the appetizers, hibachi and sushi that you could possibly consume at one sitting. Everything that I ordered was perfect with the exception of the calamari. It was a bit on the tough side but everything else was worth ordering again. I even left with a complimentary carnation for mother's day. Thank you Sushi King for making MY day a delicious event.

We went here for the first time the other day and had a great experience. The lunch buffet is $12 and the selection is fantastic. Everything we tried, from the hibachi, teriyaki, noodles, and sushi was terrific. The service is great too and they bring you a few dishes at a time. We will definitely be back for more!

Amazing! Volcano Roll Is What I Prefer It's Hot And Spicy! They Have Nice Waiters And Waitresses. Though They're Low On Staff If You Need A Job You Should Go To Sushi King!

This place is very mediocre. With a name like sushi king you expect it to be the best sushi you've ever had. The service is very very slow. When we arrived we waited 20 minutes for a table, when we were seated we saw that basically the entire restaurant was empty. So why the wait? Miso soup was decent, can't really mess that up. Egg rolls were terrible. From a bag in the freezer most obviously. The sushi finally came and it was decent at best. I ordered the cheesecake for dessert. I didn't expect the best cheesecake in the world saying as how I'm at a Japanese place, but I didn't expect it to be so small and frozen either. Won't be going back.

All you can eat sushi bar and hibachi. Don't think this is any typical Chinese buffet, the sushi rolls are about as good as some places I've gone and spent well over $50 and didnt leave half as full!

Loved it! My waitress was Sandy and she was very cheerful and engaging. I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant where a waiter/waitress actually stopped and had conversations with me. She knew the menu well which was a bonus. The sushi wasn't the best I've had but it was good enough for me to recommend it. I think I order five of the items off of the menu and was full and they are decent sized portions. All of that for 12 dollars is a steal. Can't wait to come again!!

Probably best to describe the sushi quality as "decent" or "pretty good," but what more can you expect from an all you can eat place eh? So for what it is, it's great. The only reason they didn't get a fourth star from me is because the service was rather poor the last time we were there. As the first order of sushi rolls came out they completely forgot about my son's. So we asked our waitress and she apologized and said that it would be right out. So time goes on, we all finish our first rolls (which we shared with him so that he would have something to eat) and she still hasn't brought his order. I say, "is it almost here?" And she acts as if we have never placed an order! Well, his first roll finally came out with our third rolls, which wasn't a huge deal because we shared, but such poor service really does take away from a fun family outing.

We bought a Groupon to try this restaurant out. All you can eat sushi...a pretty novel concept. However, beware of the groupon. It's no where near the value it states and somewhat false and misleading advertising. As far as food, the sushi and appetizers were fair. The service was okay. Nothing to brag about and nothing to complain about. If you would like sushi and don't want to spend a lot, this place is ok.

Excellent sushi - all you can eat that you order with lots of nonsushi items as well. Nice atmosphere. The servers are great but it take a long time to get your food. If you have a long lunch or time for a long dinner come and enjoy some great food.

Went here with my mom and sister. Service was slightly uncomfortable. Food was okay, nothing special. Got the bill and it turns out they do an automatic gratuity fee of 18% so a meal for three was $70. For that much we could have gotten filet mignon at Bonefish. NEVER going here again. They literally didn't have the automatic gratuity posted anywhere. Plus I couldn't even tell if the name was Sushi &Wok or Sushi King...

Went here for dinner last night, and it was amazing. The sushi and appetizers came pretty quickly. The shumai dumplings highly recommended! The shrimp teriyaki was amazing also. Only bad thing was that if you dont finish the sushi you have to pay extra, and the time that we went it was starting to pick up, so we couldnt really order half of a roll. Other then that, this place is amazing! Especially for only $15.99

Okay so I'm not one to normally do this but I'm going to give a very detailed review of the most ridiculous meal I just ate with Brittni Michelle. Me and Brittni are very much into Asian cuisine and especially sushi. Having been referred by a friend we decided we would go try a new sushi place, despite our better judgement. We ventured through traffic to Sushi King on Jefferson. It's an all you can eat sushi and hibachi restaurant. We sit down, very excited, to enjoy what looks like a very great meal we are about to partake in. We started with appetizers and soup which are all included in the all you can eat. Shumai dumplings and avocado salad. The dumplings were delicious, but the avocado salad that came out was the smallest saddest portion I've ever seen and the dressing on it was absolutely disgusting. We both ordered two different rolls, both of which were completely horrible. Some of the rolls came plain with no sauce or dressing and were so dry and extremely lacking in flavor. The salmon and tuna, what little they actually put in the roll, did not taste sushi grade. We decide to try the hibachi style shrimp. The plate came out and it looked good. That is until you try to eat these shrimp, they were hard and rubbery, sooo over cooked. Even the rice was bad, I didn't even know you could screw up a simple rice. Same goes for the yakisoba I ordered. Now let's talk about service, the hostess was very nice and friendly but our server was anything but. She barely spoke English and couldn't understand us. She took FOREVER to bring is anything, most of which we had to request because she forgot to bring. Other tables in other sections got wasabi and ginger on a side plate - we got none. After ordering two things she became very aggravated and angry with us. She would roll her eyes because we wanted to try different things. I was appalled at the experience as a whole. The price was decent(15.99) but for the quality of the food it was outrageous. I don't know about you but if you want to pay 15.99 for gas station quality sushi then by all means be my guest. Especially if you want it served to you with attitude and disdain. I am not a picky person and never one to really hate a place or person. But this was such a horrible experience I thought I would share it with the rest of Newport News so you don't waste your time or your money. If you want amazing all you can eat sushi, go to Asahi on 17. That is all.

  • Candace D.

The service was very slow, the restaurant was less than half full of patrons, no line at the door, the hostess took almost 15 minutes to seat us, the waitress did not speak English so asking for an iced mug for my Sapporo was a no go, then it took another 25 minutes to be served, after all that the sushi was very good, fresh, perfect. Dessert-frozen, & generic. there's no ambience, noisy children. I'd rather pay more, have better service, a cold mug & no screaming babies...

My husband and I big sushi fans! my co-worker told me about this place, so we checked it out for lunch which was great because from 11 to 3:30pm all you can eat for $11.99. we weren't sure at first because of the location, but inside was clean and neat. we end up ordering pretty much everything, our waiter name Adam and he was great, he was on time, refilling our drinks and sushi pretty fast. we really enjoyed eating there. i went on yelp to check it on and see whats the fus was about the crazy monkey roll, and it was my favorite of all time. we had great time and its diff worth it. try the crazy monkey roll, you wont be disappointed.

After reading reviews I bought a Groupon and went to try some sushi. We were greeted warmly as we entered and again at our table by our waitress. There is a large variety of menu items from which to choose, so we started light with sesame and avocado salads and shumai dumplings. All were delicious, but they were more of a tapas, so we should have ordered more. We ordered several different rolls at two separate times. Generally they were good, but not great. First, the rice was warm, which made the fish warm. In many years of eating sushi, this was the first time it had been served warm rather than cool/cold, and it was a little off-putting. Second, the special rolls were very small, so we ended up ordering more than we had planned. Third, there was not enough of any fish on any one roll to determine what the fish actually was, and we had to continually look at the menu descriptions to determine what exactly we were eating. Fourth, the "spicy" rolls really were not. Overall, pretty much all of the special rolls tasted pretty much the same: warm, a bit mushy, and difficult the distinguish one from another. We ordered the cheesecake for dessert, which was also small and more of a dense cake than a cheesecake. It, too, was a bit warm, smothered in chocolate, and a bit lacking in what was supposed to be the prominent flavor, namely, cheese. All that said, the service was wonderful, the restaurant clean and the appetizers tasty. We will go back and try other appetizers and the hibachi, which I saw to also be a very small portion. For the price, and the ability to order anything off the menu as often as you like, it was not bad. For better sushi buffet, though, try Asahi in Grafton. It's a little higher priced, but the sushi is better by a mile!

I have been to Sushi King twice already. This place is awesome. I love how the prices are reasonable for the sushi. The sushi is plated in a presentable way each time a plate comes out.I went during dinner for the first time and our server was Jonas. Jonas is a great server. He was friendly and attentive to what we needed. I went to Sushi King yesterday with my mother duing lunch. The only con abouy going during lunch time is that shrimp tempura is not available because that is delicious. Our server yesterday was Tony. Tony is also a great server. He was friendly, paid attention to details, always checked on us if we needed anything.Tony even told us what days he worked so that we can have him again as a server.Im already planning to go again to Sushi king within a month lol

This was the 4th time we have gone there. The first 3 times it was awesome. Good service great food. However our waiter Hollis, this time failed. We ordered 5 rolls between 4 of us, 2 of the rolls came out but the other half of our party did not receive theirs. When Hollis finally came back to check on us, I told him we were missing some of the order. He said the rolls were ready and he would bring them right out. 20 minutes later he comes back with some bs story that the printer had run out of paper. Another 20 minutes before one of the rolls showed up. Other customers came in after us ate and left while we were still waiting. While we were waiting all of our drinks got empty. I went to find Hollis to ask for another glass of tea.he was standing in the comer chatting with another waitress. Finally after 90 minutes I asked for the check, then the last of our order shows up. Not one time did he apologize for the delay. But he had plenty of time to stand at a young lady's table and talk for 10 minutes It is a good place to eat but is no longer worthy of all 5 star reviews, especially if Hollis is the waiter. After paying the check and leaving the 2 pennies as a tip, I went to find the manager, who was not available . We left.

This was my husband and I first time. The food was delicious. My husband was not a fan of sushi, but after having it here, he said he wouldn't mind eating it more often. The service was decent and the waitress was patient with us, as we looked over the menu. We really liked the Las Vegas Roll. All in all a great place to definitely visit.

The food is good and for $15.99 for all you can eat. It doesn't get better than that when it comes to sushi. I loved my first experience. Will def go again.
